(VEN) - Vinh Phuc Province has paid attention to occupational safety and hygiene and fire prevention at quarrying and building material firms with practical solutions in order to ensure safety for workers.

According to the Vinh Phuc Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the province currently has eight quarries. This working environment poses risks in terms of pollution. Therefore, ensuring occupational safety and hygiene and fire prevention is one of key factors making sustainable development of businesses. Businesses are being encouraged to build workshops and storage, while planned quarries are being developed to ensure high safety. In addition, all the quarries have published fire prevention regulations at dangerous areas and businesses have regularly organized training courses to raise worker awareness in terms of occupational safety and hygiene.

Businesses have promoted investment in purchasing production lines, improving working conditions, minimizing environmental impacts, while limited accidents and occupational diseases for workers, actively implemented fire insurance and fully equipped firefighting equipment. In addition, all explosives have been strictly controlled at storage sites. Businesses have also adopted fire prevention measures for each unit and workers have been fully equipped with protective gear.

Businesses have assigned staff responsible for occupational safety and hygiene and fire prevention to regularly oversee and remind workers about safety regulations. Thanks to positive measures, there were no serious incidents affecting people’s life and property at quarries.

Quang Son Quarry under the Hung Vy Co., Ltd. in Lap Thach District’s Quang Son Commune is one of eight units to have completed its occupational safety and hygiene and fire prevention work. Quang Son Quarry Executive Director Pham Van Vinh said Quang Son Quarry has been put into operation since 2003 with a scale of more than 30 people. The quarry’s workshops and storages have been designed in accordance with safety standards. In addition, the quarry has a 50cu.m water tank and one reservoir for fire prevention.

To ensure vocational safety, employees have been trained in occupational safety, hygiene and fire prevention awareness. In addition, the unit annually organizes an occupational safety and hygiene and fire prevention training course in cooperation with the provincial fire department. Moreover, the working conditions have been improved and workers have been fully equipped with protective equipment such as clothes, comforters, footwear, gloves and hats. Thanks to positive measures, there have been no serious accidents at the quarry./.
