Vietrade confirms leading role in trade promotion

In the context of increasing international economic integration, Vietrade and local trade promotion agencies, goods associations and enterprises have coordinated to efficiently implement trade promotion activities based on domestic and international resources in support of businesses in different sectors and domestic and export market expansion.

Vietrade has implemented the National Trade Promotion Program with three main objectives including export, local market trade and mountainous, border and island trade promotion. According to statistics, the program has attracted more than 21,000 enterprises during the 2010-2014 period, with signed contracts worth more than VND1 trillion and nearly US$5.3 billion in total.

It has also implemented the Vietnam Value Program, a long-term trade promotion program initiated by the government to promote the national image through prestigious brand names. Despite limited resources, the program has recorded positive results, contributing to raising people’s awareness of domestic brand names while enhancing corporate competitiveness and implementing brand development strategies.

In addition to organizing trade fairs and exhibitions, Vietrade also provides enterprises market information and training courses in trade promotion skills and product designs and development to meet market demand while increasing added values.

It has strived to promote international cooperation programs to improve the capacity of local trade promotion agencies while efficiently supporting small and medium enterprises to participate in domestic and foreign trade promotion activities.

Director of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra) Hanoi Lee Kyu Seon said, “The two sides have built close trade promotion cooperation over the past 15 years. Vietrade has implemented outstanding trade promotion programs including Vietnam Expo and Foodexpo that have attracted many Korean organizations and businesses. I would like to congratulate Vietrade on the occasion of its 15th anniversary of establishment and hope that the bilateral relationship and trade promotion cooperation between the two countries will continue to develop.”

Atsusuke Kawada, the Head of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Representative Office in Hanoi, said, “We and Vietrade have many opportunities for trade development cooperation in different fields including trade and investment information exchanges, the organization of business delegations and especially annual exhibitions for support industries in Vietnam. We hope our ties with Vietrade will further develop and contribute more to the Vietnam-Japan economic relationship development.”

Senior advisor on international trade Alain Chevalier said, “I think Vietrade has operated very well, contributing to increasing the country’s export value. So far, Vietnam’s annual export value has marked a 15-fold increase after 15 years, which is an excellent result. Vietrade has professionally expanded the list of export goods and services and provided local trade promotion agencies, goods associations and enterprises valuable trade information and trade promotion-related training courses.”

The Vietnamese business community appreciate Vietrade for its positive contributions in terms of trade promotion, especially export of agricultural and aquatic products, foodstuffs, textiles and garments, footwear, information technology products, electrical and electronic appliances, pharmaceuticals, wood furniture, handicraft products and steel to traditional export markets as well as potential markets. It has planned to open representative offices abroad under the direction of the government to enhance the effectiveness of trade promotion in key export markets.

Thanks to Vietrade’s trade promotion programs, Vietnamese products have been increasingly available in key markets including the US, the EU, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Laos, Cambodia, Russia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

The party and government recognized and praised Vietrade for its achievements, and gave it a First-class Labor Order.
