Vietnam welcomes Hong Kong investors

Vietnam welcomes and creates favourable conditions for investors and commercial groups from Hong Kong to seek business and investment opportunities in Vietnam.

Vietnamese Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau (China) Hoang Chi Trung made the remarks at a seminar on Vietnam Investment and Business Opportunities held in Hong Kong on April 6.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Dang Minh Khoi briefed delegates on Vietnam's economic picture as well as the investment attraction policy of Vietnam.

The Ambassador said that Vietnam and China are two neighbours with similarities in geography, social systems and culture which are advantages for investors from China, including Hong Kong, to seek business opportunities in Vietnam.

He affirmed that Hong Kong has always played an important role in Vietnam's economy and is one of the gateways for Vietnam to reach out to the world.

In particular, as a member of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, Vietnam is perfecting its investment environment, relevant policies and legal framework to approach international standards and ensure the operations of foreign direct investment projects in Vietnam.

Vice Chairman of Vietnam's Quang Ninh provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Thanh introduced Hong Kong investors to the business environment in Quang Ninh and the prioritised projects in the province.

He noted that Quang Ninh is building the Van Don Special Economic Zone - the first special economic zone in Vietnam with a high level of openness and streamlined administrative procedures to attract foreign investors.

The province is prioritising foreign investment in the areas of tourism, services, processing industry, supporting industry, financial services and others which are strengths of Hong Kong, Thanh added.

Hong Kong is running 13 projects in Quang Ninh with a total registered capital of US$989 million, ranked second among 18 countries and territories investing in the province.

The seminar is part of the working visit to Hong Kong and Macau by Vietnamese Ambassador to China Dang Minh Khoi along with a delegation of the Vietnamese Consul Generals in Hong Kong and Macau, Kunming, Shanghai, Nanning and Guangzhou.

The seminar was jointly held by the Vietnamese Embassy in China, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Hong Kong and Macau, and the Hong Kong-based Sunwah Group./.
