Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien recently met US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Evans Knapper.

Vietnam and the US will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive partnership in 2023.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated the US Embassy’s contribution to promoting the bilateral economic and trade cooperation, affirming that the US has become one of Vietnam’s most important partners and Vietnam wishes to further promote trade and investment relations with the US.

The two sides recognized outstanding achievements in trade cooperation, a notable one of which was the 2022 bilateral trade value reaching more than US$123 billion, 11 percent higher than that of the previous year.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien expressed his concern about the increasing frequency of trade remedy investigations against Vietnamese exports to the US, which is affecting some Vietnam’s fledgling manufacturing sectors and indirectly affecting global supply chains.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized the potential for development of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy transition, digitization, industrial cooperation, new materials, and clean, sustainable supply chain construction.

Minister Dien and Ambassador Knnaper also discussed the two countries’ multilateral cooperation within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity’s (IPEF) discussion, as well as the implementation of the Vietnam-US Trade and Investment Framework Agreement’s (TIFA) bilateral dialogue mechanism.
