Vietnam attends region's largest food expo in Singapore

The expo, one of the largest scale food events in the region, is held annually in Singapore in November by the Singapore Food Manufacturers' Association.

This year's event attracted the participation of more than 100 exhibitors from 15 countries and territories showcasing nearly 200 food stalls on an area of 10,000m2.

The four-day expo is displaying various kinds of food including processed food, beverages, confectionery, frozen food, ice cream, dairy products, food ingredients, tea, coffee, aquatic products, poultry products, vegetables, spices, and dietary food among others.

Fourteen Vietnamese enterprises specialising in producing and trading food and farm produce such as rice, coffee, seafood and vegetables are introducing their products to visitors and partners at the expo.

Commercial Counselor from the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore Nguyen Viet Chi said the APFE was a good opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises in the field of agriculture and fishery to seek partners and expand their market to Singapore and other markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

Chi noted that while Vietnamese exports to many markets in Southeast Asia have decreased, Vietnamese exports to Singapore in the first ten months of this year went up by 30% over the same period last year. Many Vietnamese agricultural products, including rice and coffee, are being sold at Singapore's large supermarkets such as Giant, Fair Price and Sheng Siong, she added.

The four-day event is expected to attract 500,000 visitors./.
