Vietnam adopts high integration standards

(VEN) - Given Vietnam’s increased integration into the global marketplace, domestic producers are being urged to meet standards beyond those expected of high-quality Vietnamese products.

After implementing the “Vietnamese High Quality Goods Voted by Consumers” program for 20 years, the Business Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Products embarked on a second program in 2016 called “Vietnamese High Quality Products – Global Integration Standards”, which helps farmers and manufacturers develop standards to increase global competitiveness.

Vu Kim Hanh, Chair of the Business Association of High Quality Vietnamese Products, said her organization had developed a set of criteria for international integration. To date, 197 enterprises have been granted the “Vietnamese High Quality Products – Global Integration Standards” certificate, including 135 food industry enterprises, such as the Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk), Da Lat Dairy Joint Stock Company, Trung Nguyen Group Corporation, and 62 in other industries.

Enterprises meeting the integration standards have all made major contributions to the domestic market and export activities. For example, Vietnam exported 1.7 million tonnes of coffee in 2022, earning about US$4 billion, of which, the total export turnover of Trung Nguyen Legend reached more than US$100 million.

The launch of the Trung Nguyen Legend Coffee World model in Shanghai, China in September 2022 affirmed the brand’s leading position, gradually realizing the desire to elevate the Vietnamese coffee brand on a global scale.

Former Science and Technology Minister Nguyen Quan said Vietnamese businesses and goods must be recognized in the global arena by meeting the high and strict standards of developed countries.

Vu Thi Bich Thuy, a representative of Saigon Co.op, said that Saigon Co.op prioritizes goods that have obtained relevant certifications in terms of advanced quality management.

In order to support businesses, in the 2023-2025 period, the Business Association of High Quality Vietnamese Products will collaborate with the Ministries of Science and Technology and Agriculture and Rural Development, associations, and distribution systems to support businesses and farmers in standard development and trade promotion, including market expansion, product labeling, and more.

Over the past six years, the Vietnamese High Quality Products – Global Integration Standards program has successfully organized training and consulting programs for businesses on quality management standards such as HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC, GLOBALGAP, ISO 9001, and SA8000.
