Recognition to sustainable development mission

Unilever Vietnam believes that sustainability drives the superior performance. Therefore, since the first days in Vietnam from 1995 until now, the company has constantly integrated sustainable development into all business strategies and activities through protecting the environment, improving people’s health and living conditions.

This makes Unilever Vietnam become one of the businesses recognized at the “Corporate Sustainability Awards” by Nhip Cau Dau Tu Magazine. The awards aim to honor businesses who proactively implement sustainable development strategies, commit to green growth and deliver corporate social responsibilities to the community.

Unilever Vietnam pioneers in several environmental initiatives to tackle plastic waste and climate change issues.

Unilever, cooperating with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has built and led the Public-Private Collaboration to drive the Circular Economy in Plastic Waste Management. The program has helped build the system of waste segregation at source and plastic waste collection, raise people's awareness, apply technology to plastic waste processing, and advocating for positive policies. Unilever Vietnam has currently set up 150 plastic waste stations, collected more than 12,000 tonnes of plastic waste and achieved 17.3 million reaches through communications, and counting.

The company also drives the sustainable packaging through using less plastic by reducing virgin plastic and increasing the use of post-consumer recycled plastic, as well as using better plastic by increasing the packaging recyclability. Unilever Vietnam has reduced 55 percent of virgin plastic in packaging production and achieved 72 percent packaging recyclability.

Unilever Vietnam also plays the catalyst role in the journey of greenhouse gas emissions reduction, contributing to tackling climate change. Using biomass fuel and solar energy to replace fossil fuels, building green facilities, cooperating with partners throughout the value chain to cut greenhouse gases, etc. are all initiatives that the company has been driving. Until now, Unilever Vietnam already achieved net zero emissions within its operations, continuing to aim for net zero throughout the value chain by 2039.

Unilever Vietnam strives to improve people’s health and living conditions through many meaningful activities.

The business has been closely working with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Training in disseminating personal hygiene knowledge and supporting products to more than 22 million people nationwide through the program “For a healthier Vietnam”. Especially during the COVID-19 outbreak, the company achieved more than 750 million reaches through pandemic prevention communications and supported 2.5 million products to 2.6 million people nationwide.

Women's empowerment programs in collaboration with the Vietnam Women's Union, or building new rural areas with the model “Perfect Village” in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development have contributed to improving the livelihoods and living conditions for millions of people. Specifically, Unilever Vietnam has helped 3.7 million women get education about business development and health improvement, 48,000 households have access to microfinancing fund of more than 350 billion VND.

Unilever Vietnam was also honored at the award "Best Companies to work for in Asia" by HR Asia Magazine. This is the 4th year in a row that the business has received this noble award.
