Tram Tau: A remote slice of heaven

The two hot springs flow at a rate of 130 cubic meters per hour, and are one meter deep. The water in one spring reaches 43 degrees Celsius, and 35 degrees in the other. It is said to benefit bathers suffering from joint pain, colds and other ailments.

The Tram Tau hot springs are surrounded by forests, villages, and terraced fields stretching to the horizon. Tour guide Dinh Van Phuong says morning is the best time to bathe. Tourists often arrive here in September or October to combine watching the terraced rice fields of the province’s Mu Cang Chai District while floating in the hot water.

The hot spring area includes a restaurant, a heated swimming pool, and bungalow-style accommodations at a cost of VND400,000- 700,000 a night.

The restaurant offers local specialties, including fragrant grilled pork, five-color sticky rice, spicy bamboo shoots, and smoked buffalo meat. Visitors can also have an outdoor barbecue with friends after relaxing in the warm water.

The road to Tram Tau is also dotted with attractions, such as Cu Vai Village, Ta Chi Nhu peak, Hang Te Cho waterfall and the Ta Xua primeval forest. The last leg of the road, along about 30km from Nghia Lo Town, crosses over hills and winding pine forests. However, it is quite narrow and tourists are advised to drive slowly.

Tram Tau hot springs are considered a “miniature Bali”

The district is boosting tourism promotion activities, hoping to welcome 240,000 visitors by 2030, with total revenue from tourism of about VND658 billion, and about 1,000 rooms, including two three-star or higher facilities and about 50 households providing homestay services. These accommodations and services are expected to create nearly 2,500 jobs with per capita income reaching VND45 million per year.

To achieve this goal, the district will focus on diversifying typical tourist offerings and models, creating a preferential investment environment for tourism projects that offer distinctive and high-quality tourism products.
