Toyota Vietnam to recall Vios and Corolla due to faulty Takata airbag

The campaign will start from 1/9/2015 at Toyota dealership network nationwide. This Campaign is covered by the global Recall Campaign of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) for 7,949,000 vehicles of different models.

As Toyota’s global announcement, the reason of the campaign is due to: the subject vehicles are equipped with front passenger air bag inflators which, according to a Defect Information Report submitted by Takata in April 2013 in certain countries, could have been assembled with improperly manufactured propellant wafers. Improperly manufactured propellant wafers could cause the inflator to rupture and the front passenger air bag to deploy abnormally in a crash, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant. In addition, in certain models equipped with single-stage passenger air bag inflators (Takata-designated SPI), such inflators may have been manufactured in such a way as to have a potential for the intrusion of moisture over time. The cause of such moisture intrusion and the relationship, if any, to the risk of inflator rupture is not known.

Accordingly, TMV will check and replace the airbag inflator module of the front passenger airbag on affected vehicles at NO COST. Total time of the checking and replacing is about 1.4 hour for Corolla and 2.0 hour for Vios and will be carried out in Toyota dealership network nationwide.

The airbags of drivers on these affected cars were supplied by another supplier (not Takata company) will not be involved in this campaign.

In order to conduct the Campaign successfully, besides publicizing information to mass media, TMV will send an invitation letter and/or invitation call to the Campaign to the owners of vehicles in the above involved list.

Also, for further information of the Campaign, as well as confirm if the vehicle is in the affected list of the Campaign, customer may access to TMV official website at www.toyota.com.vn or directly contact TMV dealers nationwide.

For the vehicles, which are NOT imported and officially distributed by TMV, if receives request for the Campaign, TMV will contact TMC to confirm information, once TMV gets the official request from TMC, they will replace the airbag inflator module following standard procedures of the Campaign.
