Thai Nguyen: Export touches over US$10 bln

The northern province of Thai Nguyem has gained an export turnover of over US$10 billion for the first time and became one of the four localities to join the US$10 billion export club.

The General Customs Department of Viet Nam reported that as of late August, Thai Nguyen shipped over US$10.5 billion of goods abroad, outstripping other key export localities like Ha Noi, Dong Nai, Hai Phong and Hai Duong.

Experts attributed the good performance to operation of Samsung Group in the locality.

Statistics showed that the locality got only US$246 in export turnover in 2013. However, export volume jumped to nearly US$8 billion in 2014, 32 times higher the figure of 2013 following the production activities of Samsung at Yen Binh Industrial Park.

The General Customs Department also updated that as of late August, 16 provinces and cities entered the US$1 billion export club. The newest comer was Vinh Phuc with US$1.145 billion, up US$390 million against the same period last year.

Ho Chi Minh City took the lead by earning nearly US$20 billion; followed by the northern province of Bac Ninh with US$14.3 billion and the southern province of Binh Duong with US$12.2 billion./.
