Tetra Pak is granted Top 10 sustainable companies in the manufacturing sector

The prestigious award is part of the annual program on benchmarking and announcing sustainable companies in Vietnam co-organized by Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor since 2016.

Sustainability is an integral part of Tetra Pak’s business in Vietnam. As a flagship company in the industry, Tetra Pak sees it responsibility to drive the industry to meet the strictest environmental standards.

As an evidence, the Company’s newly-inaugurated manufacturing hub in Binh Duong is amongst Vietnam’s first factories to apply the latest, most-demanding environmental standards set by the globally-recognised LEED certification which enables up to 36 per cent reduction of energy, over 21 million litres of water reused a year. Nearly 100% of its carton packages are made from FSC certified cartons.

The past twelve years has also seen Tetra Pak’s close collaboration with its partners to develop initiatives to collect and recycle used cartons in Vietnam. In particular, Tetra Pak plans to expand the carton packaging collection campaign of School Recycling to more than 1,400 kindergartens and primary schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city. The program is expected to instill the habit of categorizing used cartons for both schoolchildren and the public.

The Company is also actively engaged with community organizations to establish and expand the chain of public drop-off stations so that consumers can bring their used cartons for collecting and recycling. Tetra Pak currently holds a network of nearly 30 drop-off stations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

By end of November 2019, Tetra Pak is collaborating with LOTTE Mart and NHC to launch the Carton House campaign in LOTTE Marts in Nam Sai Gon. The carton houses are made from recycled cartons and serves as a destination for consumers to bring their used cartons for collecting and recycling.

Under the driving ambition that all packaging materials put into the market by Tetra Pak will be collected for recycling by 2030, the Company aligned with other eleven leading food & beverage and packaging businesses to establish Packaging Recycling Organization Vietnam (PRO) to promote the package collecting and recycling in Vietnam.
