Siemens Vietnam - a 25 year journey of innovation and dedication
Siemens was officially established in Vietnam in 1993. Siemens now has three offices in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, together with a manufacturing site in southern Binh Duong province, with a total of more than 300 employees.

Since our establishment, Siemens has successfully participated in numerous infrastructure projects in Vietnam and we are currently a market and innovation leader in the fields of Power and Gas, Energy Management, Power Generation Services, Mobility, Building Technologies, Digital Factory, Process Industries and Drives, and Healthcare.
Siemens is also one of the leading suppliers in Vietnam in the field of power transmission and distribution. Thousands of 110 kV substations, hundreds of 220 kV substations, and dozens of 500 kV substations are equipped with Siemens’ high-medium voltage products. Among the 500 kV substations are Doc Soi, Quang Ninh, Song May, and Son La.
Siemens has been contributing extensively to the development of Vietnam’s energy sector and has helped resolve power shortages by participating in a number of important power projects, including the 740 MW Phu My 3 Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), the 1,500 MW Ca Mau 1 & 2 CCPPs, and the 750 MW Nhon Trach 2 CCPP. These are among the most efficient and environmentally friendly power plants in Vietnam.

In 2017, Siemens and Gamesa united their wind businesses to shape the wind energy landscape of tomorrow and create one of the world’s largest wind power companies. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy is currently installing and commissioning the Dam Nai wind farm with 39 MW and the project is targeted to be completed in mid-2019.

And in July, Siemens won a contract to supply systems to its customer, the Trung Nam Group, and put the country’s largest solar farm into operation. The farm is the first solar project for Siemens in Southeast Asia and has a capacity of 204 megawatts peak (MWp). It will deliver up to 425 Gigawatt hours (GWh) per year; enough to supply approximately 200,000 households with electricity and save around 250,000 tons of CO2 |
We are also the leading company in the area of automation in Vietnam. Our automation solutions have helped customers in water treatment, food and beverages, paper, cement, machinery, chemicals, metals, and other industries enhance their productivity, energy efficiency, and flexibility while at the same time mitigating the impact on the environment. For example, Siemens’ Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) helps Vietnamese customers reduce engineering times by 30 to 50 per cent, which translates into significant cost and energy savings. Siemens also provided the integrated drive system for the Thu Duc 3 Water Plant, thus helping with water pressure in four outer districts and parts of two central districts in Ho Chi Minh City, especially in the dry season. And, just recently, we executed a modernization process at Saigon New Port, which helps our clients remarkably increase efficiency in their operational fleet.
Siemens’ Building Technologies, with Building Management System (BMS) solutions that bear outstanding features in energy efficiency, security, safety and convenience, have been installed in many large construction projects in Vietnam, such as Bitexco Financial Tower in Ho Chi Minh City, the Hanoi Museum, and My Dinh National Stadium in the capital. Most recently, Siemens supplied BMS and fire alarm systems for German House in Ho Chi Minh City - one of the most sustainable office buildings in the country.
In Mobility, Siemens has successfully implemented a host of projects, including the design and supply of 16 diesel-electric locomotives to the Vietnam Railway Corporation and the provision of a Material Handling System to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
In the Healthcare sector, Siemens Healthineers is the leading supplier of diagnostic and imaging equipment, providing medical services with high quality at affordable prices for hospitals and clinics in Vietnam and enabling better diagnosis and more effective treatment. Thousands of doctors and healthcare practitioners have been trained every year in clinical talks and Continuing Medical Education courses organized by Siemens Healthineers.
Siemens AG established a hub in Vietnam with qualified staff in site management, construction, erection, commission, and quality control for Siemens’ power projects worldwide. More than 20 Vietnamese engineers have been recruited to date and trained to work at 33 power plant projects in 19 countries across the globe.
Besides, Siemens commits to being a good corporate citizen in Vietnam. We advance engineering and manufacturing education and training in the country by helping establish automation training centers, donating numerous pieces of equipment, and providing free software to many technical universities nationwide. In 2011, through the Higher Engineering Education Alliance Program, Siemens provided software with a commercial value of $71 million to five technology universities in Vietnam. Most recently, 200 Solid Edge licenses was granted by Siemens to the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), with a commercial value of about $6 million.
We are also a thought leader in emerging topics such as Industry 4.0, Sustainable Energy, and Smart Cities. Last year, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the German Embassy in Vietnam, we organized a series of conferences on these topics and attracted a lot of attention from stakeholders.
Vietnam is entering a very exciting time and digitalization is an opportunity for it to leapfrog and become an industrialized country very soon. Siemens is the partner of choice for Vietnam since today we’re one of the world’s largest software companies, with more than €5 billion ($5.77 billion) in annual revenue from software and digital services and 24,500 software engineers. And we perfectly combine our hardware experience with software skills. We offer our cloud-based, open IoT operating system MindSphere to the industry to make machines smart, make production lines fast, and prevent equipment failures before they happen.
In Vietnam, we are already supporting a number of customers to lift their digitalization to the next level. For instance, Vingroup and Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding last year on promoting comprehensive technological cooperation in a number of important industries, including the automobile industry. Siemens is helping Vingroup to realize digital enterprises’ manufacturing goals. Both parties have also agreed to join forces to work on advanced plant management and operation systems towards Industry 4.0.
Siemens is an official partner of the VinFast automobile manufacturing project. We are working with VinFast on implementing the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) Simatic IT. Next year, you will see many fancy and modern cars on the streets made in Vietnam with Siemens PLM technology.

We are at the forefront of digital innovation, and we have already developed the relevant solutions for cities - for more efficiency, sustainability and security. We are working with the Ministry of Transport and city authorities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang to make transportation more efficient by implementing intelligent traffic lights and traffic management systems to regulate the flow of traffic. In July this year we signed an important MoU with Hanoi to promote cooperation in intelligent traffic systems. And just last month, Siemens inked an important contract with VinFast for the supply of technology and components to locally manufacture electrical traction drive systems used in its electrical buses (eBus). This project will not only contribute to the improvement of city environments but also enhance the public transportation system in urban centers.
2018 marks an important milestone in our history in Vietnam as we celebrate our 25th anniversary. We are proud to be able to support Vietnam in improving quality of life, propelling economic development, fostering human capital and innovation, and sustaining the environment. We are the partner of choice of Vietnamese customers and have created sustainable values for our customers, our employees, and society to build a better life for everybody. We make real what matters to Vietnam.
