Phu Cuong Commune undergoes positive changes

Education and training facilities in the commune have been upgraded significantly

Visiting Phu Cuong today, people will be surprised by the spaciousness of the land, with concrete roads, large orchards and rice and corn fields. Local people's lives are getting prosperous and better.

Since 1985, three important milestones have changed the lives of the people of Phu Cuong Commune. In 1985, when the Red River flow was re-aligned, the main river has been gradually deposited by alluvium, creating fertile fields. After about 10 years, i.e. by 1995, with the support of the Party and the State, the power gridline was connected to the promontory, since then the people of this "oasis" have had access to electricity to serve their lives and socioeconomic development. Since Hung Yen Province was re-established, the road connecting the Red River dyke across Ngoc Thanh Commune running straight into the commune center has been paved with cement concrete to facilitate the delivery of goods and services between the promontory and the main land, opening up new and favorable opportunities for the development of the locality.

Pham Van Bao, Chairman of Phu Cuong Commune People's Committee, said, a few decades ago, the promontory in the middle of the Red River was like an island, surrounded by water on all sides. Traveling was dangerous and time consuming. At that time, the lives of the people here were in risk of flood and enunciation and hard all year round, children had little education, the sick were not treated in time, agricultural production was unstable, and people earned low incomes from cultivation of jute, sugar cane, corn, raising pigs and chickens. Moreover, it was very difficult to sell products such as jute yarn, molasses or cows, because people had to go by boat to get to the mainland.

But now everything in the middle of the Red River has changed: the life is much better; children from preschool to junior high school are able to study and play in spacious classrooms. The communal clinic was built in the center of the commune to provide health care services and initial medical examination and treatment for the people. Thatched cottages are no longer in existence; all people in the area are allowed to build houses with large, beautiful, and compact roofs. In parallel with that, the transportation system in the area has been upgraded.

Before 2000, there were no concrete roads in the commune. Today, 100 percent of village roads and alleys have been paved with cement concrete, making it convenient for traffic. Funding for the construction of village roads and alleys is mainly contributed by local people. Every year, more than 10 students pass university entry exams. The local economy has developed quite well, people have changed their crop cultivation from jute and sugarcane to corn and beans.

The per capita income has increased significantly. The commune reached the new rural standard in 2016, one year ahead of schedule. Life has improved in all aspects; the local economy has developed, keeping up with the development of the country.
