PC Thanh Hoa provides smooth power supply for peak demand
According to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), under the influence of the La Nina phenomenon, northern Vietnam is forecast to continue suffering from heat waves in 2021 with daytime temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. The adverse hot weather will increase the demand for electricity, significantly affect the operation, stability and safety of the power grid, and may cause local overload in a number of areas.

Anticipating increased demand in the hot season, PC Thanh Hoa reviewed and re-evaluated the provincial power grid at the start of the year to prepare supply plans for 2021 |
Thanh Hoa Province's power grid consists of 19 110kV transformer stations and more than 7,300 distribution transformer stations with a total capacity of 2,167,340kVA, in addition to 221 medium-voltage lines and over 12,935km of low-voltage lines, ensuring power supply for 797,501 customers. With a consistently invested and regularly upgraded electricity system, PC Thanh Hoa has fully met the demand for electricity for production development and Covid-19 pandemic control (including the high demand during the hot season), election of deputies to the National Assembly and people's councils at all levels, and provincial residents’ daily lives.
When summer began, daytime temperatures in many places in the province increased and factories and households used cooling equipment, causing the electricity load in some areas to soar sharply. The province’s power load hit 1,059.2MW on March 27, 2021, an increase of 18.89 percent over the same time last year.
Anticipating increased demand in the hot season, PC Thanh Hoa reviewed and re-evaluated the provincial power grid at the start of the year to prepare supply plans for 2021 while telling member units to regularly check the grid and related transformer stations and medium-voltage underground cables to prevent potential problems. The company also devised plans for rotation of transformers in accordance with the electricity load demand in specific areas.
PC Thanh Hoa has built many new anti-overload mechanisms. By the end of March 2021, the company completed 86 of 97 transformer station projects, with 46 stations put into operation and 40 others waiting to be connected to the grid.
The company increases its operations when temperatures exceed 35 degrees Celsius to promptly handle incidents and minimize outage. It works closely with the Northern Power Corporation Contact Center to receive outage information and restore power supply as soon as possible. The company coordinates with local authorities and media to promote electricity efficiency and safety.
