The award is organized by the Vietnam Report Joint Stock Company (Vietnam Report). Companies are evaluated and ranked based on three main criteria: (1) financial capacity shown on the latest financial report; (2) media reputation measured by Media Coding - encoding the company's articles on influential media channels; and (3) survey the research subjects list and stakeholders: consumers, experts… The report was conducted in August 2020.

Commitment to supporting Vietnam’s agriculture

Since the acquisition of the METRO hypermarket chain in 2016, MM Mega Market Vietnam (MMVN) has focused on building a modern supply chain directly connected with local farmers to ensure that 90 percent of products are made in Vietnam, aiming to bring consumers diverse products meeting freshness and safety standards with competitive prices, thereby creating stable jobs and increasing incomes for farmers, supporting them to gain knowledge how to apply technology in agriculture. MMVN has organized training courses to provide local farmers with knowledge and cultivation techniques. The company has trained over 20,000 farmers, fishermen, local agricultural production facilities, and supported them in applying quality standards such as VietGap and GlobalGap, creating opportunities for local farmers to sell their products through modern distribution and export channels.

MMVN has also become a strategic supplier of diverse foods and products with competitive prices for professional customers in the HoReCa (Hotel; Restaurant; Canteen) segment nationwide. Operating depots in Phan Thiet, Phu Quoc and other localities, MMVN is committed to providing partners and consumers with the safest and highest-quality goods.

In May 2020, MMVN signed a cooperation agreement with the Saigon Professional Chefs Association to share cuisine knowledge with consumers, showing them how to choose and buy safe ingredients and cooking recipes, aiming to bring customers fresh and safe meals. MMVN also supports the Saigon Professional Chefs Association in social activities, annual events and training activities.

In August 2019, MMVN signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to promote the export of Vietnamese goods to foreign markets. Apart from markets with stable import demands such as Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong (China), MMVN is seeking new, potential markets such as Indonesia, Australia and Turkey.

Education - Health - Environment campaigns

MMVN considers corporate social responsibility its top priority and fulfills it through education, public health and environmental protection activities. In 2020, MMVN cooperates with vocational colleges and universities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang and Da Nang to implement a scholarship program titled "Elevating your career". MMVN is committed to supporting final year students in paying tuition fees and living expenses. The company also conducts soft skills training courses to help students fully gain knowledge and find good jobs after graduation.

MMVN branches across the nation organize various activities to support the community on health and the environmental protection through the "Joining hands for the community" program, such as blood donation, presenting gifts and donations for lonely elderly and children facing special difficulties, providing medical equipment and foods for hospitals, organizing waste collection and sorting campaigns, and enhancing consumer and community awareness of environmental protection.

Innovative solutions towards to sustainable development goals

Along with controlling product quality through software systems and traceability QR codes, and efforts to create a community of high-tech farmers in the era of Industry 4.0, MMVN also implements innovative solutions towards sustainability goals by helping businesses improve production technology and increase the use of green and renewable energy to reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. By the end of 2020, LED lighting systems will be installed in 16 supermarkets. Solar power systems will also be installed for some supermarkets.

In the future, MMVN will continue to implement innovative solutions to strengthen its food supply chain and develop a modern omni-channel business model (including online and e-commerce) to contribute to reducing the use of cash in payment with support of technology applications such as e-wallet. The company will also pay greater attention to human resource development, energy efficiency and environmental protection to achieve sustainable development goals.
