Localities ready for new academic year

Numerous schools in provinces and cities around the country held opening ceremonies for the new 2016-2017 school year on September 4.

A ceremony was held in the presence of former President Truong Tan Sang to inaugurate Nguyen Thi Hanh primary school in My Hanh Nam commune, Duc Hoa district, in the southern province of Long An and to launch the 2016-2017 school year.

The new school was built at a cost of more than VND1.9 billion, now serving over 1,400 pupils.

On the same day, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh attended a ceremony and beat a drum to launch the new school year at Nguyen Huu Tho high school in Thanh Phu commune, Ben Luc district, Long An province.

During the 2015-2016 year, the school had 56 classrooms with 2,339 students, 74% of whom earned “good” and “excellent” grades.

At the opening ceremony, the Deputy PM, the representative of late lawyer Nguyen Huu Tho and the leaders of Long An province presented 50 scholarships and 7,000 notebooks to students who are living in difficult circumstances.

Earlier on the same day, Deputy PM Binh attended the opening ceremony for the new academic year at Nguyen Thi Mot Secondary School and High Schools in Phuoc Lai commune, Can Giuoc district. The delegates presented 60 scholarships, 60 bicycles, 20,000 notebooks and 20 computers to poor students in the two schools, as well as Truong Van Bang Secondary School in Tan Kim commune, Can Giuoc district.

More than 1,800 teachers and students at Tran Phu High School for Gifted Students in Hai Phong city participated in an opening ceremony for the new 2016-2017 school year on September 4. Covering an area of over 42,000 square metres, the school was built at a total cost of VND350 billion.

In Ho Chi Minh City, numerous newly built schools have been inaugurated with the aim of putting 2,029 classrooms into operation by the end of 2016. The municipal People’s Committee has also approved projects on investing equipment for teaching and learning at high schools during the 2016-2017 and 2018-2019 periods, with a total investment of VND792.157 billion and VND753.912 billion, respectively.

Da Nang city’s Department of Education and Training reported that local schools would welcome 238,135 students for the 2016-2017 school year. The city has built more than nine nurseries, two primary schools, one secondary school and one high school./.
