Highlights in Chinese-Vietnamese border trade

Hekou People’s Government Deputy Head Duong Bang said that the trade fair was organized alternatively with odd year in Vietnam’s Lao Cai Province and even year in China’s Hekou Town. The event has contributed to creating a playground for the two sides’ business communities to exchange information, sign economic contracts and promote cross-border trade. During the fair many businesses have established partnerships and signed economic contracts worth of several billions of US dollars.

The 2016 China-Vietnam International Trade Fair brought together 1,200 booths. China had 432 participating enterprises (20 enterprises outside Yunnan Province) with 695 booths, introducing many kinds of products and goods such as electronic products, machinery and equipment. Vietnam had 77 economic organizations and enterprises from Lao Cai, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Dak Lak, Binh Thuan, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Tien Giang, Long An, Da Nang, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Phu Tho and Yen Bai with 229 booths, offering 30 types of goods like food, beverages, agricultural products, fruits, seafood, consumer goods, handicrafts, household furniture and local traditional products.

Viet Fruit Flavor Company Director Nguyen Than Ai said that the company was pleased with this year’s fair and that his company’s exports were also favorable in terms of customs clearance.

“Cooperation between the two provinces of Lao Cai and Yunnan has been strengthened over time, contributing to deepening the friendship between Vietnam and China. Through the organization of the event, Lao Cai Province is willing to further promote economic, trade, tourism and investment cooperation with Yunnan Province,” Lao Cai People’s Committee Deputy Chairman Le Ngoc Hung said.

Yunnan Province’s Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture Secretary said, “The China-Vietnam International Trade Fair is not only to promote cross-border trade but also to reinforce the friendship between Lao Cai and Yunnan provinces in particular and the two nations in general. The two provinces will have greater efforts to maintain and develop the achieved results in order to make the trade fair more attractive.”
