Grown in Lam Dong, sold in Hanoi

(VEN) - Cooperation between the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong and Hanoi is providing opportunities for Lam Dong businesses to increase sales of safe farm produce in the capital city.

Hanoi and Lam Dong sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in investment, trade, tourism and agriculture promotion

Increasing cooperation

Speaking at an August 29 conference on connecting Lam Dong and Hanoi in trade of safe farm produce, Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, deputy director of the Hanoi Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, said many Lam Dong farm products are selling well in Hanoi supermarkets and other trade centers.

Lam Dong has advantages in flower cultivation, coffee production, and vegetable and fruit farming. There are six flights from Hanoi to Da Lat each day, providing quick transportation of fresh produce.

Nguyen Xuan Hung, director of the Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center of Lam Dong Province, said Lam Dong has become the biggest province in Vietnam in terms of high-tech agricultural production. The province has adopted preferential credit policies while holding many investment promotion conferences to assist provincial enterprises in trade with partners from other provinces, including Hanoi.

Facilitating supply-demand connection

At the conference, businesses from Lam Dong introduced their products, while Hanoi distributors talked about the city’s increasing demand for safe farm produce. Hanoi representatives, including the Hanoi Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, proposed solutions to help Lam Dong enterprises reduce product cost, improve packaging and design, and implement branding.

Vu Thi Hau, deputy general director of the Nhat Nam Joint Stock Company, owner of Fivimart, said the supermarket system purchased farm produce items like dried fruit, coffee, and artichoke tea from Lam Dong through retailers. Nhat Nam is willing to buy farm produce meeting food and hygiene standards for its restaurants and supermarkets, Hau added.

Dao Ngoc Nam, director of the An Viet Investment and Agricultural Services Joint Stock Company, said the company would create conditions for businesses from Lam Dong to introduce their products at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s recently opened safe farm produce promotion and distribution center.

Nguyen Gia Phuong, director of the Hanoi Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, said the center would create conditions for Lam Dong businesses to open sales agents and representative offices, participate in fairs and exhibitions in Hanoi, and join Hanoi’s annual program for promoting special products and good brands.
