Dien Bien spends more on industry promotion projects

According to Director of the Dien Bien Industry Promotion Center Lo Van Thien, the center accomplished two projects last year including arrowroot noodle production at Muong Lay Town’s Lay Nua Commune and coffee powder production at the Dai Bach Coffee Co., Ltd located in Ang Nua Commune, Muong Ang District. Both were funded VND200 million from the national industry promotion budget.

However, Dien Bien failed to implement local funded industry promotion projects last year due to a lack of funding; experiencing approximately a VND500 million shortfall from national industry promotion funding failing to match local demands, Thien said.

In an effort to remove local industry promotion difficulties, the Dien Bien Province People’s Committee has approved the province’s VND23.65 billion industry promotion program until 2020, with about VND500 million of which used for short-term vocational training for 500 workers, VND7.5 billion used for supporting five technical demonstration models and 30 production machinery projects, VND950 million used for the development of outstanding rural industrial products, VND11.6 billion used for industrial park and cluster development and VND1 billion used for industrial consultancy services.

Dien Bien will focus on the development of agricultural, forestry and fishery processing, production of consumer goods and import alternatives, rural industrial products, cleaner industrial production, industrial waste treatment methods and machinery, and industry promotion projects as part of the New Rural Development National Target Program, Thien said.

To achieve targets set out in the provincial industry promotion program until 2020, Dien Bien will apply feasible solutions including reviewing industry promotion mechanisms and policies and streamlining administrative procedures. In addition, local industrial investors will receive preferential treatment in accordance with centrally and locally approved conditions. For example, they will get suitable sites for investment.

The province will ensure the balance of annual industry promotion funding and expenses through combining the implementation of industry promotion projects with other target programs and improve local industry promotion staff.
