Cyberattacks down nearly 47% in April

Hanoi (VNA) – As many as 498 cyberattacks targeting information networks in Vietnam were recorded and handled in April, down 5.1% from March and 46.9% compared to the same period last year, according to the Authority of Information Security under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

This was the second consecutive month in 2023 that the number of cyberattacks in Vietnam has reduced strongly, the authority reported.

It attributed the results to domestic agencies and organisations’ greater attention to protecting information security, and the outcomes of long efforts to increase investment in the work.

However, the authority held that cybercrime groups are still likely to target organisations and businesses related to financial services such as banking, securities and insurance. It advised enterprises to comply with regulations of state management agencies to prevent risks of cyberattacks and give timely response.

In March, 525 cyberattacks were recorded in Vietnam, a decrease of 68.9% month on month and 49.3% year on year.

In the first quarter of 2023, a total of 3,446 cyberattacks were reported and handled, down 6.3% compared to the same period in 2022.
