Craft villages have tourism potential

The locally held event has attracted lots of artisans from 21 craft villages in Hanoi as well as from 15 provinces and cities across the country to showcase their products including embroidery, silk, flowers and pottery via 300 booths, receiving good response from visitors. Several travel companies have also take advantage of promoting themselves at the event.

According to Artisan Thanh Thuy from the Quat Dong Embroidery Village, her first objective is to introduce the original characteristics of Quat Dong’s embroidery to visitors, while sales the second.

“Although lacquer ware sales have decreased in recent years, I still believe that our fine-art articles, with their outstanding traditional characteristics, will continue to look for by tourists,” said Artisan Vu Thi Le Hang.

All participating artisans considered the festival as a bridge linking domestic craft villages in a move to sustainable development, especially in terms of tourism.

Artisan Tran Thi Thanh Huyen from the city of Da Lat in Lam Dong Province brought to the festival her flower products with a view to introducing a new craft of her homeland while receiving feedback from consumers for better improving her career.

According to Director of the Hanoi Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs To Van Dong, last year, the festival attracted more than 18.5 million visitors, including 3 million foreign visitors. The event reflected the city’s tourism potential. This year’s festival has further promoted Hanoi’s tourism and the city wish to receive more support from other provinces and cities to make the festival an annual event.
