Buddy Bears – the Ambassadors of the German-Vietnamese friendship

(VEN) - The Buddy Bears were born from an art project in 2001. The Buddy Bear has been an unofficial ambassador for Germany and a symbol of Berlin. Famous Buddy Bears are not only presented outside Berlin boundary, but are also displayed in many German foreign missions abroad. In 2002, the "United Buddy Bears" arose. The show with nearly 140 Buddy Bears, as ambassadors of all nations recognized by the United Nations, takes place around the world, promoting peaceful coexistence among people races, cultures and religions.

Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City

Now, Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City will become the new home of these three friendship-ambassadors. While Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City is a symbol of the longstanding cultural and economic cooperation between Germany and Vietnam, the three Buddy Bears should be the image of profound friendship between people of the two countries.

Within the framework of an artist contest in the first half of 2018, many Vietnamese artists have sent their painting designs for the Buddy Bears with their artistic interpretation in regards to German-Vietnamese relations. The 10-member jury including artists, representatives of Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City, the German Consulate General and the Art Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, have selected three outstanding competition entries. In early August 2018, three artists have embarked on painting the Buddy Bears. The Buddy Bears, painted by Mr. Nguyen Duy Nhut, will have his new residence in the Consulate General of Germany, while the other two painted Buddy Bears, by Ms. Tran Thuy Linh and Ms. Viet Thi Kim Quyen, will be displayed in the lobby area of Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City.

The Buddy Bears will be officially presented the first time at 11:30 a.m on September 28, together with their artists. The handover ceremony takes place on the 2^nd floor of Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City.
