Bac Kan produce takes off

Sales of Bac Kan’s high-quality Tai Hoan vermicelli products have increased annually

Provincial representatives traveled to potential markets to learn from foreign experience, bringing with them the Tai Hoan vermicelli to Czech Republic, and Thanh Tam leaf wine and dried produce to Japan.

Do Thi Minh Hoa, Vice Chair of Bac Kan Province People's Committee, said Bac Kan has been strengthening trade promotion domestically and beyond, helping provincial products carve a niche in the market. The trade promotion in foreign countries is expected to pave the way for the province to increase produce exports, Hoa said.

According to Dinh Lam Sang, Deputy Director of Bac Kan Province Department of Industry and Trade, the quality of provincial agricultural products has gradually improved in recent years. Bac Kan currently has 156 3-star or higher-ranking OCOP products, including one national-level 5-star product, 11 4-star products, five national-level outstanding rural industrial products, and 20 regional-level and 90 provincial-level products.

“We always try our best to promote provincial produce and maximize supply-demand connection,” Sang said.

Efficient trade promotion has helped increase sales of provincial agricultural and OCOP products, as well as revenues of enterprises and cooperatives. The Tai Hoan Cooperative, for example, saw its production and revenue triple between 2018 and 2022 (from 105 tonnes of vermicelli worth VND5.2 billion in 2018 to 320 tonnes worth VND17 billion in 2022). Meanwhile, the Thanh Tam Cooperative saw its revenue increase from a modest amount in its first year (2017) to VND3 billion in 2022.

Vice Chair of the Bac Kan Province People's Committee, Do Thi Minh Hoa said the provincial Department of Industry and Trade is working with organizations and localities to ease problems related to online trade promotion and to boost trade promotion associated with raw material growing areas and tourism development, as well as trade promotion in foreign markets.
