Viet Nam continues regarding Japan as a top and long-term partner, affirmed Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh while holding talks with Japanese FM Fumio Kishida in Ha Noi on Thursday.

Deputy PM, FM Minh took the occasion to extend condolences to residents of Kumamoto prefecture for the losses of life and property caused by consecutive earthquakes last April.
In response, Minister Kishida expressed thanks to the leaders and people of Viet Nam for sharing Japanese people’s losses in the recent earthquakes.
Both sides showed their pleasure at the fine, increasingly strong and comprehensive development of the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries over the past time.
The two sides discussed measures to continue implementing the outcomes of the official visit to Japan by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in September 2015 as well as preparations for PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc to attend the upcoming G7 Summit and hold bilateral talks with Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe this May.
The two countries agreed to foster political trust through maintaining regular visits, contacts and dialogues at all levels, especially high-level ones while promoting the effectiveness of the existing dialogue mechanisms.
Minister Kishida stressed that Japan attaches importance to and expects to further strengthen the Viet Nam-Japan extensive strategic partnership in a more practical manner.
He also agreed to continue active cooperation with Viet Nam in the UN-led peacekeeping operations and in clearing unexploded ordnance.
For regional and international issues of common concern, the two sides agreed to continue close coordination at multilateral forums, particularly the UN, ASEAN, APEC, ASEM ; enhance cooperation in international economic linkages such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
Kishida confirmed that Japan would collaborate closely with Viet Nam in preparation for the APEC Year 2017 in the Southeast Asian country../.
