(VEN) - Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung lauded the growing Laos-Vietnam relations during the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh to Laos on December 16-19. Vietnam Economic News’ Thu Hang reported on the interview he gave the media.
How do you assess the achievements of Laos-Vietnam relations?
The traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam have continuously developed and achieved many important results in all fields.
Frequent exchanges of high-level visits highlight closer Laos-Vietnam relations. Through such events, the two nations’ party and state leaders have reached important and strategic agreements for long-term ties.
In terms of economics, Vietnam remains one of the biggest investors and major trade partners of Laos. Investment projects of Vietnamese businesses in Laos have contributed to promoting the Lao economy, creating jobs and income for local people. Many Vietnamese businesses have built welfare facilities such as schools, hospitals and roads to reduce poverty and improve intellectual standards in Laos. There has been stronger connectivity between the two economies, especially in infrastructure and transport. I believe that Laos will become an important transit hub in Southeast Asia on the basis of broader cooperation with Vietnam and regional nations.
What are the prospects for Laos-Vietnam relations?
In today’s changing and complicated world, the two countries have shown their determination to take the Laos-Vietnam traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation to a higher level.
With close attention and guidance of the two nations’ parties and state leaders, in addition to greater efforts of ministries, departments and agencies at the central and local levels, bilateral relations will yield practical effects for both countries.
