(VEN) - Vinh Long Province’s tourism development project for the 2015-2020 period focuses on the development of home-stay, craft village, historical and cultural heritage and river and garden tours.

Vinh Long has five tourism areas, including more than 40 tourist destinations including 22 home-stay destinations, and 18 travel companies, including three international travel companies. It has 64 hotels, including one 3-star and six 2-star hotels, with more than 1,000 rooms, more than 12 restaurants capable of receiving more than 3,000 guests, 100 cruise ships, and about 1,300 tourism workers.
As of April, Vinh Long had already attracted about 24,670 tourists, a 9.6 percent increase over the same period last year, with 66 percent of which being international visitors, a nearly eight percent increase. In addition to promoting river and garden tours, the province also focused on the development of tours to craft villages and historical and cultural heritage sites. Vinh Long has been regarded as one of the most successful provinces in terms of combining craft village, historical and cultural heritage site, river and garden tours, attracting a lot of international visitors.
Vinh Long’s tourism sector is promoting its specific tourism models including green tourism programs being implemented in its four island communes, for example, Vinh Long Home-stay – Your Experience in the Mekong Delta and Travelling along Green Mekong Delta which successfully combine local craft village, historical and cultural heritage site and river and garden tours. Through these tours, tourists may participate in fishing, kayaking, bicycling and Don Ca Tai Tu Nam Bo (southern amateur traditional music) performances.
With the intention of persifying local tourism products, Vinh Long’s tourism sector is researching into five tourism investment potential areas and cruise ship quay construction and management, organizing famtrips to craft villages and historical and cultural heritage sites, preparing for the construction of a museum on Vietnam’s wet rice cultivation in the Mekong Delta, and piloting river recreation activities.
Vinh Long Province’s tourism development project for the 2015-2020 period aims to make the sector a provincial economic spearhead based on effective use of local natural, cultural, historical and traditional resources and public and private tourism investment, with a view to making the province becoming one of the most attractive destinations in the Mekong Delta.
The Vinh Long Tourism Association has promoted local and regional tourism links in order to facilitate local tourism development plans and provide substantial support for travel companies, including promoting links between four provinces in the east of the Mekong Delta in terms of tour establishment, tourism training and promotion.
Vinh Long Province aims to attract 960,000 visitors this year, including 205,000 international visitors, and achieve VND220 billion as annual tourism revenue.
