Vietnam representative - Miss H'Hen Nie excelled among other strong candidates to win a place in the top 5 of Miss Universe 2018 after the coronation night wrapped up in the early morning of December 17 (Vietnam time).

This is the highest achievement by a Vietnamese representative at the world’s prestigious beauty pageant.
The final of the Miss Universe 2018 took place in Bangkok, Thailand with the participation of 94 contestants from 94 countries and territories. According to the rules this year, the organisers selected the top 20, instead of the top 16 as in last season, then the top 10 and top 5.
The Vietnamese representative was named in the top 20, and also in the Top 5 of Asia, Africa and Oceania regions, which was announced first, along with Miss South Africa, Miss Philippines, Miss Nepal and Miss Thailand.

Top 10 was announced after the presentation, in which the Vietnamese representative also named in the list. However, H'Hen Nie once again made a surprise in the cheer of the audience at the finale as she broke into the top 5, along with representatives from Puerto Rico, the Philippines, South Africa and Venezuela. This is the highest achievement of a Vietnamese contestant at Miss Universe.
In the Q&A session, H'Hen Nie was asked about whether the #MeToo movement going too far. H'Hen confidently replied that she did not feel #MeToo was exaggerating as it's important to protect women against sexual abuse. That is a huge right. Humans need protection and freedom, she affirmed.
Prior to that, the Vietnamese was highly praised at Miss Universe 2018. Her traditional costume has been selected in the top 15 by Global Beauties.
Although not being present in the top 3, H'Hen Nie had a brilliant journey at Miss Universe this year as she was continuously named among the top in the prestigious rankings of the leading beauty pages, such as Global Beauties or Missosology.
After 10 years since a place in the top 15 at Miss Universe was held by Miss Thuy Lam, H'Hen Nien officially established a new record for Vietnam.
H’Hen Nie, a 25-year-old model from the Ede ethnic minority group in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 in January.
Miss Philippines Catriona Gray - the brightest candidate from the beginning of the competition, was crowned Miss Universe 2018. The first runner-up belonged to Miss South Africa Tamaryn Green and second runner-up went to Miss Venezuela Tamaryn Green.
