(VEN) - Thanks to developing appropriate policies, enhancing trade promotion activities, promoting links with enterprises and overcoming difficulties for exports, the Vietnamese Trade Office in the US has made positive contributions to trade cooperation between the two countries.
The Vietnamese Trade Office in the US has made positive contributions to Vietnam’s higher export turnover
Playing a key role
The Vietnamese Trade Office in the US completed the assigned tasks despite facing lack of human resources from May to December 2015 such as strengthening market research and trade promotion activities, promoting links with enterprises and overcoming difficulties for Vietnamese exports.
The office actively understood US policies and laws on an inspection program for fish, including catfish and negative impacts on Vietnam’s Tra fish exports; studied about anti-dumping lawsuits and anti-subsidy cases for Vietnamese rice exports; and organized nearly 40 meetings to promote links with enterprises. In addition, the office led US groups such as the Kroger Company to Vietnam in October 2015. At a meeting, the two sides provided information to support Vietnamese enterprises in seeking partners, entering and increasing their presence in the US market through retail supermarket systems.
The Kroger Company is promoting purchase of Vietnamese food and non-food via a contract by the Casino Group. The company also wants to import other products and proposes the establishment of warehouses in the US for Vietnamese enterprises.
Overcoming difficulties for Vietnamese goods
In addition to trade promotion activities, the Vietnamese Trade Office in the US also actively participated in trade lawsuits for Vietnamese exports.
The office called and sent mails to US associations to lobby for supporting Vietnam in giving an inspection program for fish, including catfish out of the 2014 Law on Agriculture. On November 25, 2015, after they released the final rule on establishing an inspection program for fish, including catfish managed by the US Department of Agriculture, the office quickly informed Vietnamese export businesses and cooperated with ministries and agencies to seek appropriate solutions.
The US government established an interdisciplinary working group against illegal actions in terms of fish catching and farming, causing difficulties for Vietnam’s seafood exports to the US. The office reported to the Vietnamese government to seek solutions.
Vietnamese export turnover to the US steadily increased in 2015, reaching US$41.3 billion, a year-on-year increase of 18.1 percent.
