Thanh, 30, who had never won a World Cup medal before, finished third in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event.

Zhang Fusheng of China, 22, who took the gold medal, hopes for a spot in the Chinese Olympic team. Fusheng, world number 22, has achieved his first victory in an ISSF World Cup stage. His best achievement so far had been winning second place in 2013, in Munich, Germany.

Fusheng’s teammate Li Yuehong, 26, the 2014 ISSF World Championship bronze medallist, came in second place.

Earlier, another Vietnamese player Hoang Xuan Vinh won the men’s 10m air pistol bronze medal.

Vietnam now have two shooters – Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong – who will compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil this summer, following their success at the 51st ISSF World Championships in Spain./.
