President Phuc delivered a speech outlining the four biggest challenges in human history, including the Covid-19 pandemic, economic recovery in the post-pandemic period, the dire impact of climate change, and peace, security and stability in each country, region and the world. President Phuc’s speech drew praise from international friends, saying that it has conveyed a strong message about a dynamic, innovative, thriving and peace-loving Vietnam that makes practical, responsible and effective contributions to the work of the United Nations (UN).
On the sidelines of the UNGA, President Phuc had meetings with senior leaders of countries and international organizations, discussing practical measures to promote and develop relations in an effective manner and Covid-19 vaccine donations.
During a meeting with President of the European Council (EC) Charles Michel, President Phuc underlined Vietnam’s hope to further deepen ties with the EU. The two leaders agreed to resume the exchange of delegations and high-level meetings soon, while optimizing the efficiency of existing cooperation and dialogue mechanisms and seeking measures to further promote bilateral relations. President Phuc proposed that the EU urge the parliaments of its member countries to quickly ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).
President Phuc also received representatives of several US companies and multinational groups, such as AES, Thermo Fisher, Asia Group, Northwestern Medicine, Excelerate Energy and GE. He expressed his hope that businesses will consistently invest in Vietnam, especially in strategic sectors such as high technology, infrastructure and finance, helping the country engage in regional and global supply chains.

Facilitating operations of US companies
President Phuc witnessed the signing of a joint venture agreement on the establishment and operation of the Son My LNG Port Warehouse Company Limited between the Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS) and US-based AES Corporation. The agreement will contribute to ensuring reprocessed LNG to serve power demand of the Southern Key Economic Zone (SKEZ) in particular and Vietnam in general.
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a working session with the Board of Directors of US-based AES Corporation. Minister Dien affirmed that the Vietnamese government in general and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in particular wish to join the US in intensifying efforts to develop greater substance and effectiveness across all areas of cooperation. In these efforts, the role of US companies in key economic sectors, such as energy, aviation, finance, agriculture, health and education, will be very important, helping strengthen and consolidate the economic-trade pillar, thereby laying the foundation for the two countries to expand cooperation.
|Vietnam has been pursuing a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, and diversification and multi-lateralization of external relations. President Phuc’s attendance at the UNGA 76 was clear proof of its foreign policy.|
