At a meeting with Secretary of the Yunnan province Party Committee Li Ji Heng on June 13, the Deputy PM urged for joint efforts to successfully organise the sixth meeting of the working group between Vietnam’s Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces and Yunnan this year.

He also suggested that the localities step up pragmatic collaboration in economy, trade, investment, tourism and infrastructure, and facilitate the transportation and import of Vietnamese goods, especially agro-forestry-fisheries products, contributing to improving the bilateral trade balance between the two countries.

Apart from enhancing people-to-people exchanges, particularly between young people, the localities should fully actualise three documents on land border management and partner with each other in managing labourers at border areas, and building and upgrading border gates, he said.

Li Ji Heng said Deputy PM Dung’s China trip demonstrates the importance Vietnam attaches to the friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the two countries, as well as between Yunnan and Vietnamese localities in particular.

Yunnan province values the friendship and co-operation with its Vietnamese counterparts, and stands ready to co-ordinate with them in realising common perceptions reached by the two countries’ leaders, helping to consolidate the bilateral comprehensive strategic co-operation partnership.

He suggested making the best of co-operation mechanisms between Yunnan and Vietnamese localities in order to boost the affiliation in economy, trade, tourism, culture, education, health care and border management.

Joint efforts should be focused on building economic corridors and the Ha Khau-Lao Cai cross-border economic co-operation zone, as well as increasing the export and import of products of the two sides’ strengths, the host said.

The meeting took place as part of the Vietnamese official’s trip to China to attend the fourth China-South Asia Expo and the 24th Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair./.
