The agreement marked an important step in Vietnam-US cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy, while providing great prospects for both countries to boost cooperative projects on radiation application and nuclear power development in facilitating the economy and society.

Cooperation under the agreement includes increasing use of nuclear energy, researching, developing and applying civil nuclear reactor technology, managing used fuels, training human resources and developing infrastructure, researching and applying radioactive isotopes in industry, agriculture, health and environment, protecting radiation, and managing radioactive waste and used fuels.
