Vietnam Startup Day 2019 fetes the entrepreneurial spirit

(VEN) - The largest annual event for the nation’s start-up community – the Vietnam Startup Day 2019, was a resounding success for both organizers and participants.

Held over two days (August 23-24) in Ho Chi Minh City, it attracted the participation of more than 200 creative start-up models, both Vietnamese and international.

The program was initiated and organized by the Business Startup Support Center (BSSC) in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Young Business Association (YBA), the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City and the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Youth Union Association.

Vietnam Startup Day 2019 is actually an international event, a platform that connects different elements in the start-up ecosystem, attracting the participation of business incubators, business associations, large businesses and domestic and foreign investors looking to support start-up businesses in the country.

Joining the latest Vietnam Startup Day were: entrepreneurs with innovative ideas and products; start-up groups; potential start-ups; scientific researchers with products with commercial potential; international students and alumni with startups in Vietnam; domestic and foreign investors interested in sponsoring and promoting commercial products of startups.

The event created opportunities for entrepreneurs to display and promote their products and services, as well as an environment for investors to seek good projects to support. Start-up entrepreneurs could pitch their ideas and call direct investment from potential investors.

Vietnam Startup Day 2019 attracted more than 10,000 stakeholders from the startup community in Vietnam with several exciting activities including: Demonstration of interactive technology applications - Hitech showcase; Startup Exchange; Displaying typical startup models - Startup Exhibition; and Calls & Investor Persuasion - Live Pitch.

The semifinals, finals and prize-giving ceremony of the Vietnam Startup Wheel 2019 contest were a highlight of the event.

The Vietnam Startup Wheel 2019 saw the participation of nearly 1,800 Vietnamese projects and more than 100 international projects from 11 countries in 4 continents (Germany, England, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, USA, Canada, Australia, Nepal, Malaysia and Cambodia).

It honored and awarded 10 Vietnamese and five international start-up projects on the evening of August 24, with prizes worth a total of VND 10 billion.

The first prizes for Business Table and Personal Table/Startup Team were won respectively by the T-Farm project, an indoor garden, and the AirIOT project, solving power problems for Airbnb hosts.

On behalf of the contest and event organizers, Nguyen Thi Dieu Hang - CEO BSSC, said: “Vietnam Startup Wheel has gone through a development journey like a real startup. How different the seventh version was from the first year! So I understand very well the stages you went through. I have witnessed how you had to practice standing on the presentation stage, seeing you attend training sessions that lasted until 11pm.

“I hope Vietnam Startup Wheel will be an experience that you will remember on your next career path. Even if you are not a winner, you can be proud that you have won your own battle.”
