(VEN) - The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) has seen satisfactory results from a program aimed at helping firms improve product design and development capabilities, which it has implemented in association with domestic and foreign organizations as part of the National Trade Promotion Program.

To develop this program, Vietrade has participated in activities launched under the Asia Design Sharing program, which was initiated by the Republic of Korea (RoK) in 2010, and increased cooperation with design assistance providers in the region and worldwide.

According to Vietrade Deputy Director Ta Hoang Linh, the program offers support for thousands of businesses nationwide annually through workshops, conferences and training courses. These activities help improve business awareness of the role of design and provide them with design improvement and product development consultancy.

The program also offers manufacturers and exporters opportunities to meet and learn from the experiences of domestic and foreign designers.

Ta Hoang Linh attributed the satisfactory results of the program to assistance from South Korea that has a developed industrial design sector with famous brands, such as Samsung, Hyundai and LG.

The Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP) has coordinated with Vietrade to organize workshops, conferences and training courses, and has also sent experts to directly assist Vietnamese businesses.

Last year, with active South Korean help, Vietnam successfully organized the first international conference on creative industries in Hanoi. At the conference, representatives of Vietrade and KIDP signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in promoting the Vietnamese industrial design sector. Under the MoU, KIDP will cooperate with Vietrade in establishing and developing a design center in Vietnam to increase exchanges and promote connections between South Korean and Vietnamese designers.

The two sides will also coordinate to organize a Korea-Vietnam Design Sharing pavilion at Vietnam Expo annually in order to introduce brands and products with quality designs. They will organize activities through which businesses can seek partners and consultancy for design improvement to enhance the value of their products.

The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency will coordinate with the Korea Institute of Design Promotion to establish a

Vietnam-Korea Design Cooperation Center in Vietnam to expand support services for businesses in product design and

development.
