(VEN) - General Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan said “Vietnam is still a safe and friendly destination for international tourists despite China’s placing of the Hai Duong 981 rig in the exclusive economic zone of Vietnam.”
Vietnam remains attractive to international tourists
The total number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first five months of 2014 reached nearly 3.75 million, an increase of 26.07 percent over the same period last year, while the number of domestic tourists reached 20.4 million, up 6.7 percent. Revenue from tourism reached VND109.16 trillion, up 28 percent.
The number of Chinese visitors to Vietnam reached 194,018, an increase of 43.39 percent over the same period last year. The number of Chinese tourists to Vietnam in May increased by 30.56 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, increased numbers of international tourists were seen in most traditional markets compared to the same period last year such as Hong Kong, Russia, Spain, Chinese Taipei, and Denmark. And according to surveys, most international tourists went to resorts in Vietnam.
“Although China’s placing of Hai Duong 981 had an impact on the psychology of tourists, there are still plenty of tourist delegations from Chinese Taipei and China to Hanoi and Ha Long in May. Vietnam is a country of heritage, peace, and hospitality in the eyes of foreign visitors,” said Dinh The Phuong, a tour guide.
“The tourism industry has prepared related conditions, forecasts, analysis, anti-crisis models to prevent and minimize adverse impacts,” General Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan said.
According to experts, the best crisis management will prevent and minimize the negative impact on tourism, making tourists feel safe. However, to overcome the effects that may occur from the Chinese market, Vietnam should promote the exploitation of the domestic market and other markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Eastern European countries.
The most important thing for Vietnam’s tourism industry for the time being is improving the quality of tourism products./.
