The Vietnamese and Lao governments should deliberate on accelerating joint investment projects in the time ahead, including the Hanoi-Vientiane expressway and the Hon La–Khammouan oil pipeline, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Sonsay Siphandone proposed at a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in Hanoi on November 17 as part of his ongoing working visit to Vietnam.
He suggested the two countries increase cooperation between local governments and step up efforts to eliminate obstacles to enterprises doing business in each other’s markets.
For his part, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc confirmed that Vietnam will do its best to enhance its time-tested friendship and cooperation with Laos, especially supporting local businesses to boost investment in Laos.
He asked the neighbouring country to put forth specific measures to build an oil pipeline from Hon La Port in the Central province of Quang Binh to the central Lao province of Khammouan, as well as the use of Vung Ang Port in the Central province of Ha Tinh as a transit point for Lao cargo.
The PM recommended the Lao side work closely with its Vietnamese counterpart to effectively implement the above projects.
He also called on the two sides to share experience in socioeconomic development management and underlined agro-forestry-fisheries as a potential field for bilateral cooperation./.
