The diplomat made the statement while hosting a press briefing in Hanoi on October 24 to introduce the prospects and potential for economic and trade cooperation between Kazakhstan and Vietnam, the Vietnam-China-Kazakhstan-Russia-Turkey-EU transport and logistics corridor, as well as Kazakhstan’s initiative on ensuring and maintaining peace and security in the world.

Addressing the event, Ambassador Zhumakhanov said two-way trade between Vietnam and Kazakhstan has seen positive growth in recent years. Official data show that bilateral trade revenues reached US$542.7 million in 2017, up 48% from the previous year. One of the major trade and economic cooperation orientations between Kazakhstan and Vietnam is to facilitate the development of transport and logistics between the two countries through the Chinese territory.

Within the framework of the 33rd meeting of the Organization for Cooperation of Railways (OSJD) in April 2018, the working groups between the railroad leaders of Kazakhstan and Vietnam agreed to develop shared logistics routes in the two cargo transport directions, through the Kazakhstan-China habour at the Port of Lianyungang (China) and through the two Vietnam-China border train stations, Pingxiang (from the Chinese direction) and Dong Dang (from the Vietnamese direction), to ensure containers be transported straight between the two countries, as well as travel to the directions of Europe, Russia, and Central Asia, and vice versa.

In the context of Vietnam’s active exchanges towards the signing of its free trade agreement with the EU (EVFTA), the transport corridor between Vietnam, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Europe will be an alternative to maritime transport and will help to transport goods in the shortest period of time from Vietnam and ASEAN countries to Europe.

Ambassador Zhumakhanov hailed agriculture as a potential cooperation area between Vietnam and Kazakhstan. The commodities of the two countries are not competitive but complimentary to each other, he said, elaborating that Kazakhstan has farm products that Vietnam does not have, while Vietnam has unique tropical fruits.

The diplomat affirmed that over the past 25 years, Kazakhstan has built friendly relations and trustworthy cooperation with most countries in the world and have actively participated in many activities of international organisations. Under the leadership and management of President Nursultan Nazabayev, Kazakhstan has introduced initiatives to ensure world peace and security, especially the establishment of a regional body in charge of security measures and confidence building in Asia, or the establishment of an ATOM project aimed at connecting the world in the fight against nuclear weapons testing.

Concluding the press briefing, Ambassador Zhumakhanov affirmed his wish to receive close cooperation of Vietnamese ministries, branches and government agencies to further facilitate the fine traditional relations between Vietnam and Kazakhstan, towards bringing depth into the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations and meeting the aspirations of the Governments and people of the two countries. He said that Kazakhstan is always willing to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Kazakhstan, establish a joint venture or build factories.
