Vietnam hosts UN Vesak Day 2019 celebrations

(VEN) - The 16th United Nations Vesak Day Celebrations took place from May 12-14 at the Tam Chuc Pagoda in the northern province of Ha Nam, bringing together more than 100,000 attendants, including foreign delegates from 112 countries and territories and Vietnamese Buddhist dignitaries and followers.  

Themed, “Buddhist Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Sustainable Societies”, Vesak Day 2019 featured five forums discussing mindful leadership for sustainable peace; Buddhist approaches to harmonious families, healthcare, and sustainable societies; Buddhist approaches to global education in ethics; the fourth industrial revolution and Buddhism; and Buddhist approaches to responsible consumption and sustainable development.

This was the third time Vietnam hosted the UN event, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha.
