(VEN) - Some 45 scientific and technological inventions and applications of Vietnamese scientists and businesses were honored by the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technological Creations (VIFOTEC) at a ceremony held recently in Hanoi.
Ninety-five projects were submitted to the organization board’s review. The 45 winning projects include six fields: engineering and automation; materials technology; information technology, electronics and telecommunications; biology serving production and life; technologies to cope with climate change; and energy-saving technologies.
Four first prizes were awarded to projects on manufacturing a 56-seat boat using polypropylene carbonate by Nguyen Kim Son and colleagues from the James Boat Technology Joint Stock Company; cultivating citronella on land affected by climate change to extract essence by Le Van Tri, Dang Phuong Dung, Nguyen Thi Yen and colleagues from the Biotech Joint Stock Company; researching, designing and manufacturing night vision devices by Doan Ngoc Hiep from the Factory Z199’s Workshop 23; and improving quality of SCT-9 (SGP-9) anti-tank guns suitable for the Vietnamese environment by Cu Duc Lam, Truong Dinh Duong and colleagues from Factory Z125.
Le Van Tri from the Biotech Joint Stock Company and Nguyen Kim Son from the James Boat Technology Joint Stock company also won golden medals at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Awards.
Four projects in the oil and gas sector were also awarded, including researching and applying the KGAC plus new lightning suppression solution for drilling in oil wells by Hoang Hong Linh and his colleagues from Vietsovpetro; developing optimal exploitation of oil fields in the Cuu Long Basin by Ngo Huu Hai and his colleagues from the PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP); applying optimization solution to improve the recovery of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the Dinh Co Gas Processing Plant by Le Tat Thang and his colleagues from the PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation’s PetroVietnam Gas Vung Tau Processing Company; and implementing solutions for decreasing bridge wall temperature (BWT), flue gas temperature, and saving fuel for H-1101 heat gain furnace at the crude oil distilling unit (CDU) of Dung Quat Refinery by Dao Xuan Gioi and his coworkers from the Binh Son Single Member Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd (BSR).
The annual VIFOTEC awards aim to encourage and honor scientists for their effective projects with major contributions to the country’s socioeconomic development. Nearly 2,400 projects have participated in the VIFOTEC awards over 23 years, and 775 of them won prizes.
