The 27th Vietnam International Trade Fair (Vietnam Expo), themed ‘Vietnam Expo – strengthening regional and international economic connectivity’, officially kicked off in Hanoi on April 19.
The event attracted more than 500 enterprises from 16 provinces and cities from across the country as well as 23 countries and territories around the world including Algeria, India, Cuba, Cambodia, Germany, the Republic of Korea (RoK), Russia, Nepal, Japan, Mongolia, Laos, Thailand and Turkey.
The fair features nearly 60 pavilions introducing products in various fields including machinery, construction and building materials, electronics, information technology, household devices, food and drinks, and beauty and healthcare equipment and services.
The RoK is joining this year’s event as a country of honour with 136 boothsset-up by 130 enterprises. On display are products included on the roadmap of tariff reduction under the Vietnam – the RoK Free Trade Agreement (VKFTA) signed in late 2015.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh noted that the Vietnam Expo has become an important trade promotion event to support enterprises take advantage of FTAs, significantly contributing to achieving export targets as well as developing domestic market and trade activities in the border areas and islands around the country.
He also emphasised that with efforts of the governments of Vietnam and the RoK in concretising the FTA commitments signed in 2015, the RoK has become the third largest trading partner and the largest investor in Vietnam with total capital of US$50 billion.
During the four-day fair, a range of trade promotion events will also be held, particularly the Vietnam Export Promotion Forum which will discuss export market prospects and opportunities, export policies and their impacts on export activities, as well as practical experiences in trade promotion activities to help enterprises seek solutions to improve their export efficiency.
In addition, a trade event between Vietnamese and Guangxi province’s enterprises on April 20 is expected to open up more opportunities for the two sides to enhance business.
