The 28th meeting of the Senior Officials’ Committee for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (SOCA) was held via video conference under the chair of Vietnam’s Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs on June 22.
As the ASEAN Chair in 2020, Vietnam has been working closely with ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries in controlling and coping with the increasingly complicated Covid-19 pandemic.
Addressing the gathering, Nguyen Manh Cuong, Director of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs’ Department of International Cooperation and head of the Vietnamese SOCA delegation said 2020 was shaping up to be a year of unprecedented challenges for ASEAN due to the pandemic’s effects on people’s health and livelihoods, especially those of vulnerable groups.
As the ASEAN Chair in 2020, Vietnam has been coordinating closely with the ASEAN Secretariat and other member countries to carry out activities and initiatives in response to the pandemic’s complex developments, in accordance with the theme it has adopted of “Cohesive and Responsive”, Cuong said.
