(VEN) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung recently adopted a US$55.08 million project to develop tourism infrastructure to facilitate growth in the Greater Mekong Sub-region under the direction of the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism.
The project is to boost comprehensive economic growth along the economic corridor between regional countries, particularly Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, via improving infrastructure, connecting tourist destinations and improving hygiene and the environment at several tourist centers near borders between the countries.
As for Vietnam, the project is expected to contribute to developing tourism infrastructure, protecting natural and cultural heritage sites to facilitate tourism in the provinces of Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Ha Tinh, Tay Ninh and Kien Giang, and making the most of tourist advantages to attract foreign visitors and help localities develop their economy and society in a sustainable manner and reduce hunger and poverty.
The project is scheduled for development from 2014-2019./.
