(VEN) - A new attraction has sprung up in recent years in the northern province of Lang Son - a white horse fighting festival.
Some 800 of these unusual animals can be found roaming the vast green hills in Huu Kien Commune in Chi Lang District.
Just 2.5 hours by car from Hanoi, the spot is a perfect escape from the city. Without cars honking or skyscrapers blocking their view, visitors can climb hills, enjoy relaxing fresh air, green grass and trees and befriend the animals.
White horse breeding was started in the commune in the 1990s. The locality is endowed with 8,000 hectares of pasture. A mature white horse is priced at VND40-50 million, making their breeding a lucrative source of income that has greatly improved the quality of life in the previously impoverished region.
The horse owners, mostly from the Tay and Nung ethnic groups, usually take their horses to the meadow and let them roam free. Each is individually marked with a bell around the neck to designate the household that owns them.
