(VEN) - Brocade weaving is an age-old tradition and a unique cultural feature of the Ba Na ethnic people who live mostly in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.
With elegant patterns and colors, the brocade reflects the rich culture and spiritual lives of the Ba Na. The colors, in particular, are said to reflect their dreams, aspirations and artistic talents.
Most Ba Na girls learn weaving from their mothers and grandmothers from the age of 12 or 13. They weave brocade fabric to make clothes, blankets, and carpets, and their own wedding gowns to show off their skills, using simple looms made of wood.
