Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged Tuyen Quang province to become a role model in the forestry sector, an example in creating sustainable livelihoods for the people and maximising resources for economic growth.
The prime minister made the request during a visit to the northern mountainous province on February 26.
He agreed that forestry is the right path for Tuyen Quang but pointed out that the province’s forestry productivity remains low and suggested a number of actions be taken to improve its economy.
According to the provincial leadership, Tuyen Quang has determined agro-forestry, processing and tourism as the three key areas of development. However, the province is facing difficulties brought about by poor transport infrastructure.
Therefore, the province requested the government to provide support for a number of transport projects, particularly the route connecting Tuyen Quang and the Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway.
The PM shared Tuyen Quang’s difficulties as a result of lacking key infrastructure, such as an airport, border gates and railways, in addition it is far from the capital Hanoi and major seaports. As such its growth must rely on road infrastructure.
He noted that the province can further improve its business environment to accelerate its economy.
The same day, the prime minister visited a garment factory of the National Textile and Garment Group in Son Duong district.
With a total cost of VND200 billion (US$8.8 million), the factory has been operating since late 2016 and currently employs some 600 workers.
