(VEN) - The itrace247 traceability system, developed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE), has been applied to Thanh Ha lychee exports to France, Japan and Singapore, adding value to Vietnamese agricultural products in those foreign markets.

Transparent product information

A tonne of Thanh Ha lychees from Hai Duong Province has been exported to France through cooperation between the Vietnam Trade Office in France and VIETRADE. The first batch with the itrace247 traceability stamp arrived at Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris on June 12.

Vu Anh Son, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in France, said the first batch of Vietnamese lychees was exported to France despite the complicated Covid-19 pandemic following an online marketing program by the Rong Do Trade, Services and Production Company. The fruit was sold at an Asian supermarket chain in Paris, Son said.

The traceability stamp itrace247 allows French consumers to access information of the producers, production and processing procedures, and quality certificates. Traceability stamp itrace247 offers consumers transparent information, establishes a link from farm to table, and reflects Vietnam’s strategic and responsible management policy. The itrace247 traceability stamp can be displayed in different languages according to customer requests. The Thanh Ha lychees exported to Singapore and Japan carried itrace247 traceability stamps in English and Japanese.

Mai Xuan Thin, Director of the Rong Do Trade, Services and Production Company said the traceability stamp adds value to produce exports and helps improve the image and reputation of product/service providers and increase customer trust in product quality.

Improving manufacturers’ traceability capability

Thin said further assistance for connectivity, image building and product branding activities should be encouraged, and produce growing areas should be guided on applying electronic diaries and monitoring production as part of a traceability system to help businesses including exporters become more successful.

Head of VIETRADE Vu Ba Phu said the agency had developed an electronic curriculum on traceability and will offer online training, guidance and consulting in August.

In the long term, improving the digital transformation capacity of businesses is important to better information technology (IT) application. VIETRADE, in coordination with the VNPost, will develop a plan to guide and train cooperatives and enterprises and at the same time help them promote their products through booths of the national program for trade promotion launched by VIETRADE on domestic and international e-commerce platforms of Lazada, Tiki, Shopee, Sendo and Alibaba.

With the technical support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the itrace247 system has been built and put into use by the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) and applied to agricultural products from March 2021.
