Tourism sector gears up for growth

The domestic tourism market expects to see a boom in the coming time

Tourists from Hong Kong-China increased 160.4 percent, China up 65.9 percent, Thailand up 31.8 percent, the Republic of Korea30.2 percent, Italy up 27.9 percent, Spain up 26.5 percent, and Sweden up 25.6 percent.

Meanwhile, domestic tourists reached nearly 18.7 million, and the total tourism revenue was estimated to reach almost VND109.14 trillion, a 21.2 percent increase.

Increases in tourist numbers in the first quarter resulted from the implementation of major tourism development projects undertaken by large groups including Vingroup, Sungroup, FLC and Muong Thanh, and from intensive tourism promotion campaigns at home and abroad, said Director General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Van Tuan.

To attract more tourists during the Reunification Day on April 30 and the International Labor Day on May 1, the majority of travel companies launched special discount tours. For example, Fiditour offered tourists a 48 hour sale on March 30-31. Vietravel Hanoi offered tourists yacht cruises from VND2.8 million, vouchers to Vinpearl Land and Phu Quoc Island, Nanning-Guilin tours from VND5.5 million and Nanning-Guangzhou-Shenzhen tours from VND7.49 million.

Tourism promotion campaigns were launched in most potential markets and at international travel events including the 23rd Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition which is scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 4 and the International Travel Trade Show in Berlin, Germany.

This year, the tourism sector expects to welcome 8.5 million international tourists, a six-percent increase over the previous year, and 60 million domestic tourists including 31 million overnight stays, and to reach VND370 trillion in revenue.

To hit the targets, the sector has focused on the implementation of the amended Tourism Law, visa-exemption for foreign tourists from a number of countries who buy package tours, the Mekong Delta Tourism Development Master Plan until 2020 and the tourism development plans for Tan Trao in Tuyen Quang Province, Phong Nha-Ke Bang in Quang Binh Province and Xuan Dai Bay in Phu Yen Province.
