Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai made the recommendation at a working session with the district’s authorities on September 13.
To date, the province has a total of 126 craft villages, ten industrial and handicraft clusters, 900 enterprises, and tens of thousands of households producing handicraft products. Over the past eight months, the district’s total industrial and handicraft production value was estimated at VND5.7 trillion, reaching 65.9% of this year’s plan, up 7.5% compared to the same period of last year. However, the district’s infrastructure system currently remains inadequate. The transport system, water supply and environmental sanitation do not meet the requirements of local people.
Speaking at the event, the Secretary hailed the socio-economic performance of the district over the past eight months, particularly in collecting revenues and producing high-quality craft products. Ten of the district’s twenty communes have met the criteria for becoming new-style rural areas.
Secretary Hai also emphasised the need to put forth preferential policies to encourage and attract more investment in the handicrafts industry, coupled with assisting local people in applying technology to developing local craft products. The district should promote its craft products’ brand and develop traditional craft village tourism, he said.
He also emphasised that more attention should also be paid to upgrading infrastructure in the district./.
