It’s designed to best meet passenger needs

The Tho Xuan Airport is located within the Sao Vang Town, Tho Xuan District, Thanh Hoa Province,  and about 40km away from Thanh Hoa City. It is built to serve both civil and military purposes and was designed to accommodate large aircrafts including A320, A321, B747 and B777.

It was projected to have a passenger terminal, airport, car park, aviation light signals, instrument landing system (ILS), meteorological observation system and ground equipment system. All these modern equipment and systems will ensure flight safety even in bad weathers while better serving passengers.

To actually meet the possible future increasing needs of transport at this airport, the Ministry of Transport (MoT) has approved an adjustment in scale of the passenger terminal in Tho Xuan Airport via Decision 3912/QD-BGTVT dated October 16, 2014. According to this adjustment, the passenger terminal will be designed to annually welcome about 1.5 million passengers by 2020 and 2.5 million passengers by 2030.

The aviation light signal and instrument landing systems have been completed and entered operation since the beginning of 2015.

It provides Thanh Hoa momentum for development

Tho Xuan Airport Management Board has focused on improving passenger services at the airport since the airport was put into operation. In addition, it has also coordinated with local related authorities to ensure security at the airport and flight safety.

Currently, three aviation companies are operating at the Tho Xuan Airport including Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific Airlines and Vietjet Air, launching Thanh Hoa - Ho Chi Minh City and Thanh Hoa - Buon Me Thuot flights. Last year, the airport welcomed 163,000 passengers, a 77.7 percent increase over the previous year, which helped rank it among the country’s best provincial airports.

To date, last construction items of the airport are being completed. The Tho Xuan Airport Management Board expected to put the civil aviation service area into operation by January 2016.

Upon completion, this airport is expected to contribute to Thanh Hoa’s socioeconomic development as well as the north central region via facilitating transport activities between Thanh Hoa and other provinces and cities across the country./.
