Thai Nguyen’s FDI sector creates a breakthrough

(VEN) - The FDI sector created a breakthrough for Thai Nguyen Province’s economic growth in the first quarter of this year. According to statistics, FDI disbursement increased by over 80 times and the FDI sector’s contributions to the budget also rose by 380 percent compared to the same period last year.

Thai Nguyen Province’s FDI disbursement creates a strong impression

According to Thai Nguyen Department of Planning and Investment’s statistics, in the first three months of this year, the province disbursed US$174.32 million for FDI projects, a 80.7-fold increase compared to the same period last year.

Thai Nguyen Department of Planning and Investment Director Dang Xuan Truong said that FDI disbursement in the province in the first quarter of this year recorded an impressive growth compared to the same period a year ago thanks to local government’s special attention to site clearance and simplified administrative procedures.

FDI disbursement in the first three months of this year mainly focused on Samsung Electronics Vietnam Thai Nguyen’s projects and a number of projects in support industries. Dang Xuan Truong said that FDI disbursement would continue increasing in the coming months of this year.

In the first three months of this year, Thai Nguyen Province granted investment certificates for 15 FDI projects and increased capital for four projects with total newly registered and additional investment capital of US$205.6 million. Thanks to impressive results, Thai Nguyen Province ranked fifth in attracting FDI capital in the first quarter of 2014 after Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Hai Duong.

According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Agency, as of March 2014, the province had 63 valid FDI projects with a total registered capital of US$3.75 billion. The province ranked 17th among 63 cities and provinces throughout the country and first among 14 northern midland and mountainous provinces in attracting FDI capital.

In addition to impressive results in FDI attraction and disbursement, in the first quarter of this year, businesses’ production activities in the province remained stable.

Thai Nguyen Department of Planning and Investment Director Dang Xuan Truong said that the province’s FDI disbursement in 2014 would reach about US$0.8-1 billion.

The FDI sector in the first three months of this year paid US$1.45 million to the local budget, an increase of 380 percent compared to the same period last year. The sector also achieved total revenues of US$32.595 million, an increase of 3.66 percent compared to the same period a year ago. The number of employees in the FDI sector also increased from 7,522 to 12,813, an increase of 70.34 percent compared to the same period in 2013. To the end of 2014, Thai Nguyen Province’s FDI sector would attract about 15,000 employees./.
